What is OSM

OpenStreetMap is an editable map of the whole world. From OSM Wiki:

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a project that is building a free map of the whole world. Thousands of members are teamed to create an accurate, detailed and up-to-date map that is as good or better than commercial products. Like Wikipedia OpenStreetMap benefits from the ongoing input of thousands of people around the world.

Ideas

  • Find interested people
  • Organize a workshop and show basic usage and editing
  • Organize a mapping party
    • Thematical: map all the CCTV cameras in Brno downtown?)
    • Thematical: map recycling containers (see Recycling)
  • Set up a tile server and render useful overlays
    • Adapt rasher's scripts for CZ
    • Food around HS + opening-hours-aware routing to nearest one
    • (The rendered area will have to be restricted such that available computational resources can handle it -- south moravia? brno? part of brno?)
  • Experiment with unusual mapping techniques
    • Aerial photography from UAV/kite
    • Photomapping with bike + attached (video)camera(s) + gps
